About me

  • Can I live with young children? No - All three rats have only been handled by adults, and their interactions with humans have been quite limited. They would thrive in a home with someone experienced in caring for rats, who understands how to handle them correctly and is knowledgeable about the behaviour of older rats.
  • Do I have any medical issues? Yes - All three rats are currently experiencing a flare-up of Mycoplasma. Mycoplasma pulmonis is a common bacterial infection in rats that primarily affects their respiratory system and is a leading cause of respiratory diseases in these animals, often transmitted from mother to offspring. Symptoms can vary from mild (snuffling, sneezing) to severe (difficulty breathing, weight loss, pneumonia). At present, the rats are receiving nebulisation treatment once daily for 20 minutes. The nebuliser solution consists of 1ml of F10 antiseptic solution mixed with 250ml of water. The veterinarians believe that this flare-up may have been triggered by stress and could reoccur once they are in their new home. Potential adopters will be made aware of this situation and will receive guidance on the necessary medical equipment from ACGAS animal welfare assistants before the adoption day. Scrappy also has several lumps on his body. The veterinarian mentioned that they might be benign, but without anaesthesia, it's impossible to confirm. Currently, the lumps don’t appear to be causing him any discomfort and are quite common in older rats. Adopters should keep an eye on the lumps for any growth or changes. For any further questions regarding their medical status, please email into us.

Shaggy, Scooby & Scrappy entered our care when their owner made the difficult decision to sign them over, unable to continue caring for them in their old age. These sweet souls, who have known little human interaction, now find themselves in a bewildering and stressful new reality.

At around 2 years old, they are grappling with the effects of a respiratory condition known as Mycoplasma, which has only added to their distress. For more details, please refer to their medical section.

These three gentle boys yearn for a loving, rat-savvy home where their needs can be met. They would benefit from gentle handling and socialisation. As elderly rats, they no longer possess the energy to climb and play like their younger counterparts, instead, they long for the simple joys of a clean, cosy space to call home where they can relax & snooze to their hearts content.
