About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Squish might get along with another dog, as he previously lived with a female staffy before coming to us. His previous owner mentioned that a dog that is energetic and bouncy might be too overwhelming for him, but he could potentially get along well with a calmer dog. However, this would need to be confirmed through possibly, numerous meet and greets on site to assess their compatibility.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes - 13+
- Can I live with young children? No - Due to his experiences in his previous home, Squish is not suited to living with young children. For more information, please refer to the main write-up.
- Do I have any medical issues? No - Squish has undergone a comprehensive health check at our vet, and no issues were found. He was also neutered before arriving at the sanctuary. During his vet visit, Squish was a bit nervous and needed a muzzle for his examination, but he handled it very well. He’s excellent when it comes to travel, as he will jump right into a crate in a vehicle. He did show some reactivity toward the other dogs in the waiting room at that time.
- Can I live with cats? No - Squish has no prior experience living with cats and, according to his previous owner, he can be quite reactive to them during walks.
- Am I good on the lead? Yes
Squish’s journey to us is a heart wrenching one, as he arrived due to serious issues within his family home. For six years, Squish was a beloved member of the family, during which time they welcomed three children. However, one of the children was severely autistic and would have unpredictable outbursts, leaving Squish feeling terrified and often retreating to a corner to cower and cry.
Eventually, the situation became untenable, with both the child and Squish needing to be kept permanently separated. The family recognized that this was unfair to them both and made the very difficult decision to surrender him to our rescue, hoping to find him a predominantly adult only home where he can truly thrive.
Squish is in need of a quiet, stress free environment where he can comfortably settle into his senior years. Remarkably, he has adapted well to kennel life, likely due to his past experiences in boarding kennels.
Despite his challenges, Squish is a very bright and energetic boy who loves to play football and enjoys a good game of fetch. He has greeted everyone he has met so far here with a wagging tail and happy vibes, showcasing his affectionate nature. He has a favourite scratch spot under his ear on the right hand side, and when he’s playing fetch, he excels at dropping the football right at your feet. Squish treasures one on one time with his handlers and adores tummy rubs, further highlighting the love he has to give.
