About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Bodger has undergone dog testing here at our sanctuary with a spaniel, and the interactions were positive. His previous owner mentioned that he mainly wants to play with other dogs when he encounters them in public. For those who have applied who are successfully selected, we kindly request that they bring their dog to the sanctuary for a meet and greet.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? Yes - 12+
- Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Bodger has received a thorough health check at the vet since joining our care and has been neutered and groomed while under anaesthesia. When he arrived, he had significant matting and isn’t particularly fond of grooming sessions, additional details are available in his main bio. Bodger will soon start using a soothing skin spray to address mild dermatitis. He also came to us with conjunctivitis, which has since been treated and resolved, as confirmed by the vet. Additionally, Bodger was on epilepsy medication following two seizures he experienced in February 2025. He has not had any further seizures since then, leading to his medication being discontinued as of April 30th 2026. We will continue to monitor him closely. If you need further information regarding his past seizures, please reach out to our dog assessor, Gary Mathlin, via email.
- Can I live with cats? No - Bodger has never lived with a cat before
- Am I good on the lead? No - Bodger tends to pull on the lead, so he will need some training for loose lead walking. The welfare team is actively working on this with him.
- What was the reason for my surrender? Bodger came to us because his previous owner was having financial difficulties and their living situation changed, resulting in him being left alone for extended periods. This led to barking, which caused noise complaints from neighbours.
Bodger is a lively character who prefers to take life at his own pace.
He decides when he wants to engage for some affection or when he’d rather wander around and ignore you!
When he feels like it, he can be incredibly playful and definitely has a lap dog personality!
He enjoys exploring our enclosed fields, but he hasn’t had much lead training. In the past, he hasn’t been fond of grooming sessions, often requiring medication beforehand to help him relax or needing his owner to stay with him for reassurance. This is why we requested that our vets shave him while he was under general anaesthesia, ensuring he was comfortable and stress free during the process. We would describe Bodger as a happy go lucky soul with an independent personality!
