About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Duncan hasn't lived with other dogs before but has the potential to bond with others. Initial observations show that he is very keen to make friends with one of our older staff dogs. We will update this write up, once both dogs have had more playdate sessions.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? No - 11+ - Duncan has not lived with children before, & would therefore suit a home with older children or an adult only home.
- Do I have any medical issues? Potentially - Vet Appointment - Currently Pending - Duncan is currently not neutered but is up to date with his vaccinations. His next booster vaccination is due on the 17th July 2027.
- Can I live with cats? Potentially - Duncan has come from a home where he lived with 2 cats, but they were kept separately. Apparently this was not due to any "aggression" from Duncan. Due to this, we would consider applications from a home with dog savvy cats, that have access to the outdoors. Please note - We cannot accept applications from homes where the cat's have not lived with a dog before. Dog's visiting the home does not count.
- Am I good on the lead? Yes - Duncan is currently undergoing loose lead walk training
- What was the reason for my surrender? Duncan's previous owners sadly faced health challenges and family obligations that prevented them from giving him the attention he so desperately needed. As a result, he often found himself alone for long stretches of time, longing for companionship. Like many beagle mixes, Duncan expressed his loneliness through a vocal outcry, which led to frustration among the neighbors. In their irritation, they resorted to throwing harmful substances into the garden, which included toxic items, hoping to silence his cries. His family, filled with worry for his safety, ultimately made the heart breaking decision to let him go.
- What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Currently Under Assessment
- Do I have any fears? Not that we know of!
- What are my exercise requirements? Up to 2 hours a day (due to his breed: Beagle X Spaniel) Engaging walks required
Meet Duncan! (Formerly Jaxon)
Duncan is a gorgeous Beagle-Spaniel mix in search of a new beginning. Given his breed, he will need a secure garden, and it’s important that any neighbours are tolerant of what we affectionately refer to as “the Beagle bark.” Duncan is not recommended for first time dog owners.
This lovable pup is incredibly cuddly and forms strong bonds quickly. While he may be a bit anxious around new people and unfamiliar environments, he enjoys treats, savours tasty meals, and will play fetch with his toys, when the mood strikes him! Since the sanctuary is still a new experience for him, this behaviour is perfectly understandable. Our team is continuing to learn more about Duncan, and we’ll provide updates as we get to know him better. He is also crate trained and responds to cues like sit, paw, and middle!
