About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Bodger has undergone dog testing here at our sanctuary with a staff members Spaniel - Spike, and the interactions were positive. Bodger is also currently getting to know another staff members Labrador - Riley. His previous owner mentioned that he mainly wants to play with other dogs when he encounters them in public. For those who apply who are successfully selected, we kindly request that they bring their dog to the sanctuary for a meet and greet.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? Yes - 11+
- Do I have any medical issues? No - Bodger has undergone a comprehensive health check at the vet since joining our care, and he has been neutered and groomed while under anaesthetic. He is also up to date on his vaccinations, as well as flea and worming treatments. His next booster vaccination is due on the 16th May 2027. Upon his arrival, he had significant matting and isn't particularly fond of grooming sessions, more details can be found in his main bio. He was receiving Contego skin spray for mild dermatitis on patches of his back, which has now been cleared by the vet. Additionally, he came to us with conjunctivitis, which has been successfully treated and resolved. Furthermore, Bodger was on epilepsy medication after experiencing two seizures in February 2025. He has not had any further seizures since then, and his medication was discontinued on the 30th April 2026. Both we and the vet currently have no concerns about the possibility of seizures reoccurring and believe it may have been an isolated event.
- Can I live with cats? Potentially - Bodger has not lived with a cat before, but he has approached the glass of our rescue cattery without reacting, he seemed excitable when meeting them nose to nose but obviously this is only from behind the glass. This suggests he might be able to adapt to living with a dog savvy cat. However, we will only consider applications from homes where the cat has previously cohabited with a dog without any issues. Occasional visits from a dog do not meet this requirement.
- Am I good on the lead? Yes - Bodger tends to pull a bit on the lead, but it's not a significant issue. He does need some training for loose lead walking, and the welfare team is actively working with him on this.
- What was the reason for my surrender? Bodger came to us because his previous owner was having financial difficulties and their living situation changed, resulting in him being left alone for extended periods. This led to barking, which caused noise complaints from neighbours.
- What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Bodger was really good during his trip to the vet, traveling comfortably in a crate inside the van without any issues. He loves jumping straight into the crate!
- Do I have any fears? Not that we know of!
Bodger is a lively character who enjoys taking life at his own pace!
He chooses when he wants affection and when he’d rather explore on his own. When he’s in the mood, he can be incredibly playful, although he may get a bit mouthy with play biting and hyper when overstimulated, which could just be a result of the kennel environment. He is currently excelling in clicker training and check ins with his handlers.
Bodger loves exploring our enclosed fields and being outdoors. His previous owners mentioned that he hasn’t been fond of grooming sessions, often needing medication beforehand to help him relax or requiring their presence for reassurance. We were told that his stomach is a particularly sensitive area, likely due to past matting that made it sore and tender. This is why we requested that our vets shave him while he was under general anaesthesia, ensuring he was comfortable and stress free during the process. Overall, we would describe Bodger as a happy go lucky soul with an independant personality!
