About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Brian came from a home where there was a 12 year old, deaf cockerpoo. He often tried to engage her in play, but she wasn’t very interested. Additionally, Brian has met a staff member's spaniel and had no issues during their on, and off lead interaction.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? No - 15+ - Brian has lived with children aged 10 to 13, but it took him some time to acclimate to their presence. Given that he is a senior dog and is sensitive to loud noises, we are seeking an adult only home or a household with older children for him.
- Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Brian is currently taking Vetmedin twice a day, with 1.5 tablets in the morning and evening, due to a grade 3-4 heart murmur. The vets have also confirmed that he requires a dental and an echo, this will be taking place on the 6th August 2026. Brian arrived too us already neutered but was not up to date on vaccinations, we have now restarted these, with him scheduled to receive his 2nd vaccination on the 26th August 2026.
- Can I live with cats? No - Brian likes to chase cats
- Am I good on the lead? Yes - Brian is exceptional on the lead, he enjoys strolling alongside you at a relaxed pace. He’s the perfect companion for leisurely walks!
- What was the reason for my surrender? Since the arrival of the new baby, Brian had become quite anxious at home. His behaviour towards the other dog had also changed, including some growling. The owner felt that, due to his heightened anxiety regarding the baby and the other dog, the home was no longer a suitable environment for him.
- What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Absolutely fine! (travelling in a secured crate in the back of a van) - Brian is also used to being lifted/carried.
- Do I have any fears? Loud bangs, slamming doors, fireworks, wheelbarrows going past him
- What are my exercise requirements? Enjoys a gentle stroll, per day, no high energy exercise, may asked to be carried
Meet Brian! This Sweet Senior is Searching for a Cozy Home!
Brian is an absolute sweetheart to be around. Our team has helped him settle in well, and he adjusted to the rescue routine very quickly. He enjoys his walks and loves spending time outdoors with his handlers. While Brian can be a bit nervous about noises and sudden movements right now, this is completely normal given his new surroundings.
Brian has had two homes that we know of. He was surrendered from his first home six years ago when his owner went into the hospital. A family member then took him in, which ultimately led to him being in our care now. For more details, please refer to his reason for surrender section.
We’ve discovered that Brian’s favourite treat is cheese! and he will do anything for it! 🙂
He would thrive in a calm home where he can enjoy a relaxed lifestyle!
Currently, Brian is in foster care, and here are some comments from his foster family 🙂 :
Monday 3rd August – “Brian had a good night’s sleep and was quiet throughout. He’s taken his tablets on time and has eaten all his food. This morning, we took him on a 30-minute walk, he kept up a good pace, stopping for lots of sniffs and bathroom breaks. He spotted a rabbit and showed interest but didn’t go wild. He also saw a cat nearby that couldn’t escape, but after a little persuasion, he walked on by. Now he’s flat out sleeping! He was quite anxious yesterday about the front door making clicking noises, but considering it was a big day for him, that’s understandable. We’ll see how he is today.”
Wednesday 5th August – “Brian had a shorter, slower walk this morning and met a few friendly dogs along the way with lots of wagging tails. I left him alone for 10 minutes while I took Allen to the doctors, he barked as soon as I shut the door. When I returned, he had settled down and was overjoyed to see me. When I sat down, he jumped up and wrapped his front paws around my neck, leaning his face against mine for a proper hug—followed by lots of kisses! 😚🐕”
