About me

  • Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Dijon has been dog tested with a staff member's spaniel and had no issues.
  • Can I live with teenagers? Yes
  • Can I live with young children? No - 16+ - Dijon's previous family noted that he could be somewhat territorial about his bed, therefore he might not appreciate a toddler or young child getting too close to that space
  • Do I have any medical issues? Potentially - Dijon is awaiting a vet visit, with the date yet to be confirmed. Dijon was fully vaccinated before arriving to us. Next vaccination due: 18th November 2026
  • Can I live with cats? No - Dijon has no experience living with cats, so he would do best in a home that does not have any
  • Am I good on the lead? Yes - Dijon displayed excellent behaviour on the lead during his initial assessment. He is accustomed to a harness and walks calmly by your side without pulling. (These are observations made by staff whilst he was brought in with his original owner) Since arriving, Dijon has been quite nervous and has only spent time in our socialisation room. He hasn't yet ventured on a stroll around the sanctuary. Once he gains more confidence and becomes comfortable with being harnessed, we will provide updates in this section.
  • What was the reason for my surrender? Dijon's family had concerns about his presence around a toddler who would soon be crawling

Dijon Mustard is a sweet little Chihuahua, but his journey has been anything but easy. He came to us after his previous family grew concerned about having a Chihuahua in a home with a baby just beginning to crawl.

While he doesn’t need hours of exercise, he does require regular brushing and grooming to keep him comfortable. Dijon walks gently on a lead and seemed to find a bit of joy in a short walk with one of our staff dogs during his assessment. He would appreciate a stroll around the block or a trip to the dog park, but the thought of climbing mountains is far too ambitious for him. He is definitely a low energy type of dog!

Sadly, Dijon is carrying a bit of extra weight and desperately needs a proper diet. Since arriving, he’s been utterly terrified, struggling to adjust to the reality of life in rescue.

Today marks day 7 (12.2.26) of his stay with us, and it’s only now that he has mustered the courage to leave his kennel on his own. He finally received some much needed one on one time with our staff in the socialisation room, where he was showered with affection. It’s lovely to see him slowly begin to trust us, realising that we’re here to help. The team is definitely focusing on his needs right now.

Dijon’s world has been turned upside down, and he will need a tremendous amount of patience from any future adopter(s) as he faces yet another transition. This little boy just needs time and love to heal, and it’s painful to think about how long he might wait for that. Our team will continue to work on building his confidence day by day, but it’s crucial that he finds a warm and loving home soon. His little heart deserves a chance at happiness.
