About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Yes - Mikey has become best friends with a staff member's Labrador during his stay with us. He loves to chase after him and barks to invite him to play! In his previous home, Mikey was the only dog, but he might be able to share a home with another dog, depending on their temperament. If an applicant has other dogs at home and is selected for a meet and greet, we will ask them to bring their dogs along, and multiple meet and greets may be required. Mikey did go into foster briefly over New Years (due to his fear of fireworks) & shared his space happily with another spaniel & labrador.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? Yes - 10+ - Mikey previously lived with a family that had a 9 month old child. He wasn't very comfortable with the child approaching and touching him. Because of this discomfort around young children, Mikey would be better suited for a home with older children or adults only.
- Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Mikey has undergone a complete health check, and no concerns were identified. He is also fully vaccinated & neutered. Next vaccination due: 12th May 2026. While minor tartar was noted on his teeth, no dental treatment is needed at this time. Mikey does have a fear of fireworks, so he is typically prescribed medication from the vet during bonfire night and New Year’s Eve. Our animal welfare team can provide guidance on this by consulting his medical history for potential adopters upon request. Mikey also experiences flare ups of pancreatitis and follows a special diet to manage this. He can only have treats that contain less than 7% fat. We can provide more details during a successful meet and greet, or you can email our dog assessor using our sanctuary email address for further information.
- Can I live with cats? No - Mikey cannot live with cats as he has never shared a home with them. He also likes to chase them on walks
- Am I good on the lead? No - Mikey tends to pull on the lead but will stop when you do. He will need a strong adopter! He requires training for loose lead walking, and we are currently working on this with him. Adopters will benefit from continuing this training to make walks enjoyable for both parties!
- What was the reason for my surrender? Mikey came into our care because he wasn't comfortable around the young child in his previous household. For more information, please reach out to our animal welfare team.
- What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Mikey travels well in a crate inside a van
Mikey is a lively sprocker looking for a new home! At nearly 5 years old, he’s full of energy and enthusiasm. As a sprocker, Mikey enjoys being off lead, exploring his surroundings, and playing with toys. He always brings a toy to us when it’s time for walks, his tail wagging with excitement!
He’s a wonderful companion with a gentle and friendly temperament. Mikey would flourish with active adopters, ideally those who have prior experience with spaniels, although this isn’t a strict requirement. It is important to note that he can become fixated on light, for example, if sunlight reflects off your phone and onto the floor, he will intensely focus on that spot. Our dog assessor, Gary, can provide tips on how to effectively redirect his attention if this behaviour occurs.
