About me

  • Can I live with other dogs? Yes - Moe has been tested with a staff member's spaniel, Spike, and there were no issues. His previous owners mentioned that he frequently had playdates with a family member's dog and a friend's dog, both of which are small breeds. For those who apply who are successfully selected, we kindly request that they bring their dog to the sanctuary for a meet and greet.
  • Can I live with teenagers? Yes
  • Can I live with young children? Yes - Moe has interacted with young children aged 1 to 13. We believe he may do well in a home with dog savvy children. Subject to a meet and greet.
  • Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Moe has undergone a complete health check at the vet, and there are no concerns apart from the need for a dental procedure, which is scheduled for the 9th June 2026. He has received his first vaccinations, with the second set due on the 29th June 2026. His booster vaccination will be due on the 29th June 2027. Moe was neutered before arriving at the sanctuary and is up to date with flea and worming treatments.
  • Can I live with cats? Potentially - Moe has never lived with a cat, but given his calm and shy temperament, we believe he might be able to adjust to cohabiting with one, provided the cat is dog savvy. Please note that we will only consider applications from homes where the cat has previously lived with a dog without any issues. Occasional visits from a dog do not qualify.
  • Am I good on the lead? Potentially - Moe is currently quite nervous, having recently arrived with us. He has never worn a harness before and is used to being walked solely with a collar and lead. He allows staff to attach the lead to his collar, but it's important that the approach is gentle, patient, and at his own pace, if staff move too quickly, he may cower. While he is very nervous at the moment, he has shown gradual improvement. Notably, he recently jumped onto a staff member's lap and stayed there for a full 20 minutes, simply seeking cuddles. This is a significant step forward for him. Moe can be a bit skittish once out of the kennel block and unsure of which direction to go. However, once he realises we’re heading to the secure paddock, he happily follows. When he becomes more confident, staff will gradually introduce him to a harness, but only once he feels fully comfortable.
  • What was the reason for my surrender? Moe's owner unfortunately faced health challenges, which placed the responsibility of sole care on their partner. Given their own health issues, the situation became overwhelming, leading them to decide to give Moe up for the opportunity of a better life.
  • What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Since Moe is still quite nervous at the moment, he needs to be lifted into the crate inside the van. We know he was frequently picked up by his previous owners, so he is completely comfortable with this process.
  • Do I have any fears? So far, we've noticed that Moe is startled by sudden movements and loud noises, which we attribute to his new environment and nervousness. We'll update his profile as we become more familiar with his personality.

Meet Moe!

Moe is a beautiful Shih Tzu mix looking for a new place to call home.

We can see that Moe has a lot of affection to give, even if he’s not quite ready to show it just yet. As mentioned, he is currently very nervous after recently arriving at the sanctuary, but he’s gradually starting to trust us. He’ll take treats from us and indicates that he wants to jump up for a cuddle on your lap, where he enjoys observing everything happening around him. He might thrive in a home with another smaller dog for companionship and added confidence, although this isn’t a requirement.

As of the 3rd June 2026, we’ve noticed that Moe enjoys squeezing into tight spaces (on occasion) to hide from unfamiliar people. Because of this, potential adopters should be aware that he might seek refuge behind fridges or counters in a home setting until he becomes comfortable with his surroundings and the individuals present.

We’ll keep you updated on Moe’s progress as we get to know him better! He’s also due for a groom, so we’ll take some new photos once he’s had his haircut!
