About me

  • Can I live with other dogs? No - Nugget is currently unable to coexist with other dogs. As he was the sole puppy in his litter, he hasn't had siblings to learn important social behaviours from during his formative years. This may be causing him to currently be reactive towards other dogs when he's out and about. For this reason, he would thrive in a home where he is the only pet. Our dog trainer and behaviourist, Gary Mathlin can provide guidance and training sessions to address his reactivity
  • Can I live with teenagers? Yes
  • Can I live with young children? No - 12+ Nugget is accustomed to having young children visit the home, but he hasn't lived with them full time.
  • Do I have any medical issues? Potentially - Nugget has had a health check at the vet, and everything appears normal. He did visit a second time for a suspected ear infection, but no underlying issue was identified for his head shaking. If the head shaking persists, we may consider sedation to properly examine his ear, as this cannot be done while he is awake due to the stress it may cause. Nugget was very well behaved at the vet and enjoys traveling in a van inside a crate. He readily allows you to pick him up to place him in the crate for the journey. Nugget was fully vaccinated before arriving into our care. Next vaccination due 21st February 2026.
  • Can I live with cats? No - Nugget has never lived with cats before.
  • Am I good on the lead? Yes - Nugget is a joy to walk on a lead. He doesn't pull and stays close. He may become a bit vocal upon seeing another dog, even from afar, but this behaviour can be addressed through training.
  • What was the reason for my surrender? My owner had health issues & could no longer care for me anymore due to this.

Meet Nugget, a young Dachshund X who has been surrendered to our sanctuary, leaving behind a life he deeply cherished. His arrival serves as a bittersweet reminder that life can take unexpected turns.

Now, Nugget finds himself alone in a kennel, his once bright spirit dimmed. The shift from home to kennel is challenging for any dog, but for Nugget, the loss of companionship he relied on makes this transition even more heart wrenching.

As a rare singleton puppy, Nugget missed crucial opportunities to learn essential canine communication and coping skills from littermates. This lack of early socialisation may lead to frustration and sensitivity to handling later in life. Because of this, we are seeking a very special adopter or foster home for him, one with prior dog experience, as Nugget is not suitable for first time dog owners.

Nugget longs for the stability and love every dog deserves, along with the guidance needed to help him thrive as the wonderful companion he has the potential to be.

This precious boy requires extra patience and care to help him adjust to his new reality. Despite our dedicated welfare team investing countless hours to earn his trust, we worry that the confines of kennel life may cause his spirit to fade further.

Nugget deserves a family that will embrace his uniqueness, cherish his journey, and help him rediscover the joy of companionship. We will be there to support his new family every step of the way.
