About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Potentially - Ozzie has been dog tested with a staff member's spaniel and had no issues.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? No - 16+ - Ozzie's previous family noted that he could be somewhat territorial about his bed, therefore he might not appreciate a toddler or young child getting too close to that space
- Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Ozzie underwent a complete health check by a vet on the 17th February 2026. The examination revealed that he has a Grade 3 heart murmur. We are scheduling an echocardiogram to further investigate, as the vets suspect significant changes since his last check up in November 2025, when this issue was not noted. We will provide an update on his condition after we receive the echo results. Ozzie is also significantly overweight and needs to start a diet immediately. If he gains any more weight, it could seriously jeopardise his health. Ozzie is fully vaccinated. Next vaccination due: 18th November 2026
- Can I live with cats? No - Ozzie has no experience living with cats, so he would do best in a home that does not have any
- Am I good on the lead? Yes - Ozzie is excellent on the lead & will stroll just out in front of you, but can be quite stubborn when he wants to go in a particular direction. He tends to stop and indicate his preference, and if you don’t allow him to go that way, he might try to wriggle out of his harness. Having been carried almost everywhere by his previous owner, he is always eager to be picked up for new adventures. To establish a good walking relationship, Ozzie will need to build a strong bond with someone he trusts. He responds well to phrases like “come on then” and “walkies,” and he gets very excited when he sees his harness and lead.
- What was the reason for my surrender? Ozzie's family had concerns about his presence around a toddler who would soon be crawling
Little Ozzie is an adorable little Chihuahua, but his journey hasn’t been easy. He came to us after his previous family became worried about having a Chihuahua who guards his bed, in a home with a baby just starting to crawl.
While he doesn’t require hours of exercise, Ozzie does need regular brushing and grooming to keep him comfortable. He walks gently on a lead and seemed to find some joy during a short walk with one of our staff dogs (spaniel) during his assessment.
He enjoys a stroll around the block or a visit to the dog park, but hiking up mountains is far too ambitious for him. Ozzie is definitely a low energy dog!
Unfortunately, he is carrying a lot of extra weight and urgently needs a proper diet. It’s essential that he goes to a home where his dietary needs will be taken seriously.
When Ozzie first arrived, he was extremely frightened and struggled to adjust to life in rescue. Even now, he continues to face challenges.
Today marks day 13 (February 18th 2026) of his stay with us, and it’s only recently that he has found the courage to leave his kennel on his own. He now gets excited when we open his door, eager to explore. It’s heart warming to see him gradually begin to trust us, realising that we are here to help. The team is dedicated to addressing his needs right now.
Ozzie’s world has been turned upside down, and he will require a great deal of patience from any future adopters as he faces yet another transition. This little boy just needs time and love to heal, and it’s painful to think about how long he might wait for that. Our team will continue to work on building his confidence day by day, but it’s crucial that he finds a warm and loving home soon. His little heart deserves a chance at happiness.
