About me

  • Can I live with other dogs? Yes - Tanzi interacts positively with other dogs. She recently enjoyed an outing at the boating lake in Cwmbran with our staff, where she met various dogs of all shapes and sizes and remained completely chilled around them. We've also received feedback that Tanzi got along well with the family dogs in her previous home. For those who apply and are successfully selected, we kindly ask that you bring your dog to the sanctuary for a meet and greet.
  • Can I live with teenagers? Yes - 12+ - Tanzi is accustomed to being around older children. She's quite large and energetic & has a habit of jumping all over people when overly excited, she doesn't realise how big she is! which means she could unintentionally knock over a smaller child. For health and safety reasons, she should be placed in a home with children aged 12 and older.
  • Can I live with young children? No
  • Do I have any medical issues? Potentially - As of the 1st June 2026, Tanzi has displayed mild signs of potential hip dysplasia (not a definitive confirmed diagnosis). The vet has prescribed a 10 day course of Metacam to assess if it alleviates the slight lameness in her left rear hip, with the medication expected to conclude on June 12th. We will provide an update on her condition afterward, as the team is closely monitoring her progress. Tanzi is fully vaccinated and up to date on flea and worming treatments. Furthermore, she was spayed before arriving at the sanctuary. Her next booster vaccination is due on the 10th February 2027.
  • Can I live with cats? No - Tanzi has never lived with a cat before
  • Am I good on the lead? No - Tanzi’s previous family mentioned that she tends to pull on the lead quite a bit, & we have experienced this ourselves. Based on our observations, she pulls when she’s interested in something, like a chicken or the cats & has recently become quite reactive to traffic going past. The team is currently focused on improving her loose lead walking & reactivity to the mentioned above. It’s important that her new adopters are active and steady on their feet, as they will need to manage her energy as she is a very large breed.
  • What was the reason for my surrender? Tanzi came into our care because her previous owner's health was deteriorating, making it difficult for them to walk her.
  • What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Tanzi was very good jumping into a staff members van but she did need encouragement. We had to remove the crate from the back of the van in order for her to have more space (still covered by transport guidelines). We've been informed by her previous owner that Tanzi is generally good in the car, but she tends to struggle with trips longer than 30 minutes.
  • Do I have any fears? Potentially - vehicles when they get too close to Tanzi when she is out on a lead walk

Attention all shepherd enthusiasts!

We’ve all quickly fallen for Tanzi! She has adapted wonderfully to kennel life and loves going for walks with our staff and volunteers. Full of energy, Tanzi greets everyone with enthusiastic jumps, often unaware of her size! She thrives on affection and is truly a sweet girl. She adores attention and loves playing football! We have a list of cues from her previous owners, and our team is working closely with her to uncover the tricks she knows. Right now, we’re focusing on “recall” and “loose lead walking.”

According to her previous owner, Tanzi is both muzzle trained and crate trained. They reported that she was perfectly fine being crated for a few hours (2-3) and adapted well to that routine. It’s essential for her to have a crate in her new home to help maintain her established routine. Tanzi would thrive with adopters who ideally have experience with large breeds, as she is very bouncy and playful! She gets overly excited when greeting people and just can’t contain her energy!
