About me
- Can I live with other dogs? Yes - Tia has had the pleasure of interacting with many dogs since she was a puppy, and she gets along exceptionally well with all of them. She brings a vibrant energy to playtime and is currently best friends with a puppy who is 10 months her junior, as well as another dog that is 8 years old, she can easily outpace the younger one! Her play style is very lively, but she can easily tone it down with a simple call off, thanks to her excellent recall. If Tia were to be rehomed with another dog, we believe she would thrive best with a companion of similar size and temperament to match her energetic nature. While this isn't a strict requirement, we strongly feel that having a canine friend would significantly enhance her well being. Currently, Tia is in foster care with a dog of a similar size, and they have formed a close bond, becoming best friends!
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? Yes - 12+ - While Tia has been raised around young grandchildren aged 3-12 and would visit them regularly, her previous excitement around them leads us to recommend that she be placed with slightly older children.
- Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Tia experienced extensive surgery following her spay due to complications from the procedure (which was performed before she arrived at the sanctuary). If you would like more information, please reach out via email and request to speak with our dog assessor, Gary Mathlin. Since coming into our care, Tia has had a thorough health assessment, and no issues were found. However, her fosterers have observed a potential hip problem since her arrival, particularly as she has been getting regular exercise. After another health check and x-rays, the vets have recommended that she begin hydrotherapy and physiotherapy, starting on Thursday, July 16th 2026. We will provide updates on her progress following a few sessions. Tia is fully vaccinated and current with her flea and worming treatments, with her next booster vaccination scheduled for March 4th 2027. Tia is currently seeking an adopter who is committed to continuing her hydrotherapy and physiotherapy regimen. For more information or to discuss this further, please reach out to a staff member via email.
- Can I live with cats? Potentially - Tia previously lived with a 19 year old cat, but her owners felt she wouldn’t be suitable for a home with a cat, as she tends to chase them frequently when they move/run. In our care, we’ve observed that when she sees our farm cats, she pulls on the lead and attempts to chase them, even if the cat is stationary. For this reason, a cat free home may be better for her, but we cannot fully rule this out.
- Am I good on the lead? Yes - Tia can walk beautifully on a loose lead, though she may occasionally pull when she’s motivated. She is quite strong, so we recommend that her adopters be active and steady on their feet. Thanks to the excellent training she received from her previous owners, her loose lead walking and waiting cues at gates and doors are exceptional.
- What was the reason for my surrender? Tia's owners made the difficult decision to rehome her after realising they had underestimated the commitment required for a young, working line breed. Despite the significant effort they invested in her exceptional training, she ultimately wasn't the right fit for their lifestyle.
- What am I like when I travel in a vehicle? Tia was really good during her trip to the vet, traveling comfortably in a crate inside the van without any issues.
- Do I have any fears? Not that we know of!
Introducing Lab X Tia!
Tia is a high energy gundog mix bursting with vitality!
This delightful dog adores cuddles, playing with toys, training sessions, and snack breaks, she truly is the whole package!
Friendly and well trained, she would thrive with experienced owners who might already have an older gundog to help guide her (though this isn’t a compulsory requirement).
If you’re a first time dog owner, Tia may not be the best fit for you. However, if you have the time, energy, and experience with gundogs or similar breeds, she could be your perfect companion!
This just in from her foster parents!👇
“Tia continues to do really well! We have seen first hand her absolute love for water and swimming. She adores it.
Her and Luna continue to have their playful moments but Tia also enjoys giving Luna a good face clean now, which is the sweetest thing.
She is the most loving dog and checks in with us humans all the time for a fuss. She is not keen on the hoover! But she just moves herself away, she doesn’t get stressed or anything. She also takes her job of security guard dog of the house very seriously 😝
She settles easily in the house, for how young and energetic she is – She is more than happy to slump next to you and cuddle and wait for her next walk. She really does need to be close to her humans. We have had two wee accidents in the house first thing in the morning. We have learnt that she sometimes goes out before breakfast but doesn’t wee. Then when she eats, the floodgate opens shortly afterwards 😂 just need to make sure she has toileted before brekkie, so that’s on us.
Tia has also been practising a puzzle game.
She also seems to do well with a slow feeder which we use at dinner time only at mo. She’s been really good in the car too.
I will sort some more lovely photos out soon. We have booked them in to The Cwtch on Saturday when weather cools 🤍
In short, she is a delight x”
