About me
- Can I live with young children? Potentially
- Do I have any medical issues? No - Truffle has undergone a complete health assessment since arriving with us. She hasn't been spayed, as her previous owner informed us she is approximately 6 years old. The vets have advised against spaying a guinea pig of this age due to the increased risk associated with anaesthesia. However, after examining Truffle's teeth, the vet suggested that she seems significantly younger than the age we were given. Unfortunately, our only source of information is her previous owner, who claims to have had her for over six years.
- What was the reason for my surrender? Truffle previous owner was sadly unable to care for her any longer
Meet Truffle!
Truffle is a recent addition to our sanctuary and is currently getting accustomed to her new environment. So far, she has shown that she’s comfortable being handled and doesn’t mind being picked up for vet visits or grooming sessions. Naturally, she’s a bit confused by her change in surroundings, and we’re working to help her adjust smoothly to minimise any stress.
Truffle may be suitable for companionship with a neutered male guinea pig, but she cannot be housed with an un-neutered male. For further details, please refer to her medical section. Her previous owner mentioned that Truffle had lived with another guinea pig in the past, but there were issues with fur pulling, with Truffle being the instigator. Unfortunately, we don’t have additional details about that situation. Therefore, careful bonding would be necessary if she is placed with another guinea pig, and we can assist with this through a meet and greet in a neutral setting.
Alternatively, the vets have approved her potential rehoming as a single guinea pig, as she is accustomed to this arrangement. Since Truffle is used to human companionship, she would thrive with a family that can dedicate time to bond with her. She can be quite social once she learns to trust her new friends.
